About YIA

Youth In Action

Youth in Action (YIA) was founded in 1995 by CLBC as a public program for youth with special needs. In order to qualify for the program, your teenager must be registered with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and have a CYSN file. YIA is specifically designed for 13 to 18 year olds with mild to moderate developmental disabilities who are currently attending high school. We usually meet in the Willow Room at Trout Lake Community Centre.

After School Program

Our After School program operates from 3:00pm to 6:00pm on weekdays. The staff to youth ratio is 1:4. The maximum is 12 youth on from Monday - Friday.

Join us for 1, 2, or 3 times per week, for the Fall, Winter, and Spring season. We aim to build on life skills through activities such as cooking, pottery, sports drills, yoga, interactive group games, taking public transit, shopping, and practicing personal hygiene. These activities enhance reading comprehension, money skills, encourage physical health and well-being. We also promote healthy boundaries amongst peers and staff, while developing peer friendships using social skills. With increased awareness of facilities and resources available in the community, and awareness of preparing for employment, our youth grow in independence and confidence.

The price is $8 per day.
